Mindscrew 2.0 Day 3

Post by The King of Eggs on Sun Apr 07, 2013 4:29 am

You awake, in a meadow. something is wrong.

In the distance an echoing chuckkle can be heard
bahahahahaha

You look around, 6 others are beginning to wake. Something is very wrong.

The sound grows louder, an echoing titter.
bahahahaha

The seven of you cock an ear, trying to identify the source of that irritating laughter. Something is Extremely wrong.

The sounds is really quite loud now

hahahahahahahahaahahahaha

That sound, it fills your existence till there is little else. Something Is Wrong!

BAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HA!

Then comes the voice.

You fools have returned? Fine, it’s your funeral.

Welcome to my Domain, I am The King of Eggs, although I’m sure you knew that, and this is Hell Mindscrew 2.0.

The game is simple, and yet oh so impossible. All you must do is ^&^*&^%%&%#$@@$% and then $^#$#@%#$@, it’s just that easy Smile

Well, what are you all standing around here for? GET TO IT!

Frequently Asked Questions

1) What the f*** is going on here?

That's a very good question, isn't it?

2) What do you mean; you can't tell me any of the other rules?

Exactly what I said the last time. What are you, ignorant of history? (Not to mention illiterate?)

3) So should I assume that there aren't any rules at all?

Not necessarily. I recommend you look up a little piece of philosophy called Pascal's Wager. It might be somewhat relevant to this situation.

4) But you're not God!

And how do you know that, again? I told you its spelt Mod

5) Will you at least tell us how many votes it is to lynch?

Did I not say that I cannot tell you any of the other rules?

6) When is our deadline?

Once again, I would like to remind you that I cannot tell you any of the other rules. Don't worry, only a bastard Mod would let a deadline sneak up on you without any warning...

... hmm, maybe you should lynch really, really quickly.

7) I read Mindscrew Meadow. Can I assume that your rules here are similar?

You might think that. I couldn't possibly comment. *cackles evilly*

Cool What the heck is this "Rules Infraction" I see added onto my post?

It might be an indicator that you screwed up and broke the rules somehow. It might be the result of a game mechanic. It might, in fact, be the same mechanic that appeared in the original Mind Screw Mafia.

Or, it might be that your Mod is a bastard Mod and is just placing "Rules Infraction" at the end of random posts.

You decide!

9) Why are you not allowed to tell us any of the other rules?

I am not at liberty to reply to that question, either.

10) Does your inability to answer that question have anything to do with the card game Mao?

<.<
>.>
No, not at all...

Yay!

Hey Reverse; long time no see. Welcome back!
Vote: Reverse

Some housekeeping: Eggs is probably a player, there's likely a role hiding the rules, FoSes probably do something.
FoS: Eggs

Now, if I know Eggs and/or Mind Screw, this will likely be a power-heavy game. Scum are going to be inherently well-coordinated, so I think it should be to the town's advantage to coordinate our abilities the best we can. With that in mind, I am proposing a massclaim of some sort - probably not a full one straight away, but I want to get something out there.

So, everyone should check their Role PMs and analyse each bit of information: if it was made public, how could the town use it for good; or how could the Mafia use it for evil.
If there's anything unequivocally good, claim it immediately (deadlines, voting rules etc)
If you're not sure, make a call yourself, but maybe err on the side of caution (you cannot unclaim what has been claimed)
If it's something good for Mafia (like claiming bulletproof) DON'T DO IT; keep that kind of thing to yourself

Also, for things that might help Mafia, figure out if you can claim them safely - like instead of claiming that you're a doctor, claim you know there's a protective role; instead of claiming masons, say someone can confirm you if necessary/you can confirm someone else. Do be careful with these, though; weigh it up carefully.

Afterwards, we can combine some of those pieces; say, if we know there's both an investigative and protective role, get the investigate to reveal themselves so the hidden protective can protect them.

Also, if you happen to know that Character X from Series Y is town/is scum/is something, don't claim that yet (it only give Mafia a hole to hide in); keep it to yourself until someone claiming to be that character claims.

Of course, to put my money where my mouth is, I do have stuff to claim under these guidelines. I'll just leave it for a post or two to get other people's opinions and make sure that nothing bad can come of the bits I'm intending to reveal.

Woo...

Um, that's not how you spell Darth Skywalkerbacca.

I'm hoping someone knows what's going on there, since that'll be a pain to try to figure out. It's not using full names, since Alex did Eggs properly - unless Eggs isn't voteable, so that doesn't count.

Unvote (just to be sure)

Vote: TKoE

Firstly I would just like to say, Thank you to The King of Eggs for bringing mind screw back. It was one of my favorite mafia concepts.

This is quite an interesting situation, because I normally am quite the idea of mass claiming. However in a mind screw game it's very hard to separate the lies from the truth in terms of said mass claim.

Vote: TKoE
FoS:IICR

My vote is based on that inherent hatred for the mod that we all have. While my FoS is simply based in a conceptual plane. After all haven't we all asked the question "can I FoS myself" from time to time.

so rules hidden
possibly a hidden vote count , or an obscure voting strategy ( vote for game alias)
although is there much we can assume or easily test without risking modkill?

Re: Mindscrew 2.0 Day 3

Post by Supreme Overlord on Sun Apr 07, 2013 10:14 am

My gosh, Reverse; if that's a post restriction it's going to be incredibly annoying, and if it's just your spelling ... wow.

Allow me to try and translate:
Reverse Simplicity, Translated wrote:Hey, I am not telling what my role is, try to guess it please. I am on the phone writing right now. I have a passive requirement only, not a win condition. But this is Mind Screw so I can't be sure. I am not voting until I work out what side I am on.
I'm guessing the passive requirement is the post restriction forcing him to write ... silly.
By 'try to guess it' do you mean abilities like 'post restriction', or your character name?

If I Could Rewind wrote:This is quite an interesting situation, because I normally am quite the idea of mass claiming. However in a mind screw game it's very hard to separate the lies from the truth in terms of said mass claim.
So, all in all, are you leaning more for or against? Why do you think it will be harder to separate truth from lies in a Mind Screw compared to any other game?

Sid_The_Kid wrote:so rules hidden
possibly a hidden vote count , or an obscure voting strategy ( vote for game alias)
although is there much we can assume or easily test without risking modkill?
Hmm; I'm tempted to claim my character name so we can test that - it was one of Eggs' mechanics in the first Mind Screw and he was disappointed it didn't get used. I would need assurance that we would all mass name claim if it worked, though - we should be able to force scum to do it, since if they don't, we may not be able to lynch them, but they'll out themselves.
We shouldn't have to worry about being modkilled; Eggs knows the rules are hidden and has to be lenient, so long as you don't do anything really stupid, but posting your role PM or lurking.

Unvote
Vote: Winnie the Pooh
Testing to see if random characters can be voted for; if they can, scum could just lie and mass name claiming wouldn't work.

Reverse, correct me if I'm wrong, but:
Reverse Simplicity, Translated wrote:The head says it would be pretty dumb to try a lynch on Day 1, but maybe we've got to force it. With that said, Vote: No Lynch.
I'm not sure on 'head' there; and you wrote 'til' but 'until Day 1' doesn't make sense, so I interpreted it as 'on Day 1'.

Guys, I'm pretty sure Overlord just claimed to not be Winnie the Pooh.

I really hope someone has a WtP role.

It would suck to not have a win condition.

My win condition appears clearcut, although my abilities are not.

Interesting. Mine were both pretty clear (so far as Eggs' role PM writing skills go). Ask for clarification if you can; the worst he can do is say no.

So you don't have anything specifically against it (so long as we do it carefully), and would go along if the majority decided to do so?

Changed my mind.

A massclaim is the best we can do upfront.

On the condition we don't need to specify source material for our role. Very Happy

As in character name? Do you have a reason for this (a 'yes' answer is fine).

I would definitely support a massclaim where we don't need to claim [media] because mine is [REDACTED].

OK, but media should be fairly easy to figure out, once we have the name - so your problem is you specifically claiming your own media?
